Data Visualization Working Group Quarterly Report

DVWG Charter Status
After the SuperDARN Workshop 2021, the PEIC decided to create the Data Visualization Working Group (DVWG) to focus on pyDARN.

The Working Group Guidelines state that:
One to two PIs will be designated as primary representatives of the PIEC for each WG to facilitate ongoing communication between the PIEC and the WG.

pyDARN Update
Current Status
pyDARN v2.1 released on June 10, 2021.
pyDARN provides the following plotting methods now:
- ACF plots
- Range-time Parameter plots (also known as RTI plots)
- Time-series plots
- Summary plots
- Fan plots
- Grid plots
Utilities:
- slant range calculation
- ground-scatter mapped calculation
- reading hardware files from the hardware repository
Future Directions
- Convection map plots
- update hardware reading with new hardware format
- Geographical plotting
- range gate to geographical calculation
- testing code to help prevent bugs being released
